Why choose the Aqara W600?
The W600’s biggest advantage is connectivity. Aqara gives it both Thread and Zigbee support, with BLE also listed in the specifications. In Thread mode it can join compatible Matter ecosystems, including platforms such as Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant when the necessary Matter/Thread infrastructure is present.
Switching to Zigbee and using a compatible Aqara hub opens up Aqara-specific functions such as external temperature sensor linking, smart schedules and multi-device grouping. That makes the W600 interesting if you want something that can live inside Aqara today while retaining a route into the wider Matter world.
Aqara also supplies two AA batteries and six valve adapters. The standard threaded connection is M30 × 1.5, so you should still check the valve on your radiator before ordering.
Why choose the SONOFF TRVZB?
The SONOFF TRVZB keeps things more conventional: it is a Zigbee 3.0 radiator thermostat. SONOFF lists remote control, schedules, group control, open-window detection, child lock, frost protection and adjustable valve percentage among its features.
SONOFF says it works with Zigbee 3.0 hubs including its own ZB Bridge products, iHost and compatible dongles, and it documents Home Assistant support. Apple Home integration is possible through a suitable Matter bridge rather than the TRV itself being a native Thread/Matter device.
It also uses the common M30 × 1.5 connection and comes with adapters. It takes three AA batteries, which SONOFF says are not included.

What if you don’t already have a hub?
This can change which option makes more sense. A Zigbee TRV needs a compatible Zigbee coordinator or hub to deliver its smart features. If you are starting from scratch, factor that into the total cost rather than comparing only the price of one valve.
For the W600, Thread/Matter gives you another route if you already own suitable Matter and Thread infrastructure. Alternatively, the W600 can be used in Aqara’s Zigbee ecosystem with a compatible Aqara hub.

Which is better for Home Assistant?
Both can make sense for Home Assistant users, but your existing network matters more than the logo on the thermostat. If you already run a solid Zigbee network, the TRVZB’s Zigbee-first approach is appealing. The W600 gives you a choice between its Zigbee route and a Thread/Matter route, which may be more attractive if your smart home is moving in that direction.
Always check the current integration and feature support for the connection method you intend to use. A product being visible in a platform does not necessarily mean every manufacturer-specific feature is exposed there.
Don’t forget the radiator valve itself
Neither thermostat is useful if it cannot physically fit your radiator. Both use M30 × 1.5 as their standard threaded connection and both offer adapters, but UK heating systems can contain a mixture of valve types — especially in older properties or homes that have had radiators replaced at different times.
Check the existing valve before buying several units. If you’re unsure, start with one thermostat, confirm the fit and behaviour, then expand to the rest of the house.
Our pick: Aqara W600 or SONOFF TRVZB?
For flexibility, we’d lean towards the Aqara W600. Thread plus Zigbee gives it more ways to fit into a modern smart home, and the included adapters and batteries make the package tidy.
For an existing Zigbee household, the SONOFF TRVZB can be the more pragmatic choice. It covers the smart-heating basics well without asking you to pay for connectivity options you may never use.
The best choice therefore isn’t simply the thermostat with the longest feature list. Look at the hub or coordinator you already own, the number of radiators you eventually want to control and the valve fittings in your home.
